The Person County Recreation, Arts, and Parks Department offers yin yoga taught by Martha Pickett, who has over 200 hours of yin yoga training.

Yin yoga targets your deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. It’s slower and more meditative, giving you space to turn inward and tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of your body. Because you’re holding poses for a longer period of time than you would in other traditional types of yoga, yin yoga helps you stretch and lengthen those rarely used tissues while also teaching you how to breathe through discomfort and sit with your thoughts.

Have you been told you need to “move more” but have no idea how to start?  Try a “yin yoga” class and get started.  Anyone can do a yin yoga class, and this is an excellent way of waking up your body.

Yin yoga is for everyone.  If you are older and need to stretch this is a great class.  If you are overweight and need to start moving this is a great way to get started.  If you are a seasoned athlete and need to learn to slow down and stretch your tissues to accommodate your muscles and/or learn a mental competitive edge, then this is the class for you.
