Chastity Brown

Chastity Brown
Oct. 17, 2015, 7:30pm
$20/$16/$10

Chastity channels songs that are born deep in the American bone, the desperation, confidence & hunger that runs through our times. Originally from TN, now based in Minneapolis, she has been dubbed “a banjo-playing soul-singer” & “a rocking, rolling encyclopedia of roots music,” by critics. Chastity continues to push her talent even farther. For those who appreciate songwriter- fueled jazz & a sense of organic greatness in the making, she is nothing short of a massage therapist for the ears and soul. She's currently traveling through the U.S. and Europe armed with only her guitar, divine keyboardist DeVon Gray, and her ability to distill Southern blues and plaintive North Country prairie influences into expansive, alluring folk songs.

To Kill a Mockingbird
To Kill a Mocking Bird
Nov. 6 & 7, 2015, 7:30pm
Nov. 8, 2015, 3:00pm
$20/$16/$10

Directed by Ray Pearce. Set in Depression-era Maycomb, Alabama in 1935, young Scout Finch lives with her father Atticus Finch, an attorney, & her older brother Jem. When Tom Robinson, a black man, is accused of raping a white woman, Atticus is asked to represent him & accepts; this is an unpopular decision with the townsfolk. Meanwhile Scout, Jem & another friend forge a bond over one of the neighborhood legends- Boo Radley. This dramatization of the touching classic tale is a meaningful work of art. NOTE: In keeping true to the book, understand that some of the language is offensive, however is not a reflection of the cast, crew or the Kirby.

Shana Tucker
Shana Tucker ChamberSoul:
A Different Kind of Christmas
Dec. 4, 2015, 7:30pm
$20/$16/$10

Back for an encore, Shana is a singer-songwriter & cellist who credits her genre-bending ChamberSoul™ journey to the influences of her jazz & classical roots interwoven with 80's & 90's pop music, movie soundtracks, & world music.  Shana's style and sound has been described as a mash-up of Dianne Reeves, Joni Mitchell and Tracy Chapman, with an efficient complexity that is reminiscent of Bill Withers.
As a child, Shana Tucker moved around a lot in the school’s orchestra room.
In the beginning, she waited in line to get a flute – but when it was finally her turn to pick an instrument, the flutes were all gone. “Oops – grab a violin so they won’t make me leave,” she thought. Quick-thinker, Shana Tucker...
By junior high, she had traded piano and violin for cello, and seeds quickly began to take hold in fertile soil. Before finishing high school, she was composing, singing, performing at every chance in any genre and configuration available – and getting noticed for all of it.
With subsequent musical studies at Howard University and Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, her work as an arranger/composer and member of the string trio Hue brought further accolades and commissions for works performed at the Kennedy Center, the Joyce Theatre in NY and the Witts Theater in Johannesburg. The trio opened for acts including Sweet Honey in the Rock, Blind Boys of Alabama & the Indigo Girls.

Malpass Brothers
Mar. 12, 2016, 7:30pm
$20/$16/$10

The Malpass Brothers are as authentic as stoneground grits, country ham & red-eye gravy, hush puppies and chopped pork barbecue...& they're every bit as good. It doesn't matter if you're already a fan of classic old-time "real" country music when you take your seat. You will be by the time you leave. This is the real deal, folks. There is no pretense. With sincerity, honesty & an utter ease on stage that belies their years, their smooth vocal blend & skillful musicianship layer infectiously into the deep respect they pay to legends who have paved the way. Add the funny, off-the-cuff quips between the two 20-something siblings, & this engaging concert becomes a magnetic journey to a time when a calmer rhythm reigned supreme.

The arrival of Birdie in Sweet Apple causes people of all ages to swoon. Birdie will give his One Last Kiss on the Ed Sullivan show. BYE BYE BIRDIE is a satire done with the fondest affection; a show that will be enjoyed by the cast as much as the audience.
