Maternal Health 

 The purpose of the Maternal Health Program is to provide early, continuous, and comprehensive maternity services to pregnant women who are unable to obtain these services through other sources due to financial limitations.  The Maternal Health Program also includes postpartum services.

Person County Health Department Maternity Clinic offers prenatal services to expectant mothers who fall into the following categories:

  1. Medicaid/Medicaid pending
  2. No medical insurance
  3. Insurance that does not cover maternity benefits (may or may not be eligible for Medicaid).
  4. Sliding Scale Fee for payment.

Upon admission to the maternity clinic, the patient receives a complete physical examination, which includes a Pap smear, sexually transmitted infection(s) testing and treatment, screenings, counseling, education, and referrals for psychosocial and nutrition problems.

Education is offered and includes information on infant feeding including breast feeding, childbirth, parenting, weight gain during pregnancy, prenatal vitamins, what to expect at appointments, promoting health maintenance, planning for discharge and child care, safe sleep, and birth control methods for the postpartum period.

Care Management for High Risk Pregnancies services is also available.

Duke University Medical Center providers are available to see patients on Mondays and Tuesdays.
