Immunization Program

The goal of the Immunization Program is to prevent disease, disability, and death from vaccine-preventable diseases.  The Health department works to help reduce the spread of vaccine preventable diseases by ensuring that individuals are age appropriately immunized. The Health Department in consultation with the NC Regional Immunization Consultant, manages cases and outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Public Health Nurses enforce the immunizations required by law in community and private daycare centers and public and private schools, by case managing clients who come to the Health Department for immunizations, and assuring that private providers are aware of current recommendations for immunizations. Public Health Nurses work closely with School Health Nurses to ensure gaps to care regarding immunizations are closed.  Any child under the age of two found to be delinquent in required vaccines is followed to ensure he/she receives the proper vaccinations.

Immunizations are available for all age groups and immunization education is given to each vaccine recipient and/or caregiver.

The Health Department participates in the Vaccines for Children (VCF) program; a federal initiative created to help families of children who do not have access to vaccines, by providing free vaccines.

Immunizations are provided by appointment Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Walk-Ins are added to the schedule as openings are available.
