Family Planning/Women's Preventive Health

The Family Planning Program consists of but may not be limited to education and counseling, sexually transmitted infection prevention and testing, cervical and breast cancer screening, pregnancy diagnosis, preconception health counseling, and a wide range of birth control methods. Such services enable people to understand their sexuality, determine the number and spacing of their children, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. The program makes it possible for women to have children at ages when there is the least risk for undesirable health outcomes. Both males and female clients are served through this program.  Services for males include exam, counseling, sexually transmitted infection prevention education and testing/treatment, condoms, and referral(s) if needed.

Services are provided regardless of religion, sex, age, marital status or contraceptive preference. The fee for service is based on a sliding scale to determine the client’s cost, unless the client is eligible to receive services payable through Medicaid, Family Planning Waiver, or the Title X Program. Services are provided at no charge to teens.

Duke University Medical Center medical providers see patients on Mondays and Tuesdays. Appointments are scheduled; however, walk-ins are worked in when possible. Patients who need to be evaluated and/or treated for a sexually transmitted infection are also seen in these clinics.
