There is no such thing as a No Kill shelter. We do have to humanly euthanize animals due to over population, sickness, injury, and unsocialized and aggressive dogs.
Are you open on Saturdays?
We are open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for adoptions only. However, some Saturday's we may be at a different location for Adoption Events. Please be sure to call before Saturday to find out more details!
If I find an animal, what do I do?
First give the owners 24 hours to have a chance to find it. If it has tags, try to locate the owners and then if that fails call the Animal Shelter.
What if I lose my pet?
Notify us, local vets, newspaper, local radio and post flyers everywhere.
How long are you going to keep my animal?
If you surrender your animal an evaluation will be made to determine if the animal is adoptable.
Do you have a vet on staff?
No.
How do I know my adopted pet is healthy?
When leaving the shelter you need to take you new pet to the veterinarian’s office within 24-48 hours after being adopted.
Do I have to get my adopted pet spayed/neutered?
Yes.
Why can't you come out to my house today?
We have a limited amount of staff and to better serve you we have to follow a priority system:
1 - Being an emergency such as: hit by a car, dog bite, person being attacked, natural or man-made disasters, injured animals, wildlife in living area, and animals at school and nursing homes.
2 - Stray animals confined or caught in a pen, calls by the elderly or disabled.
3 - Stray animals, owner surrenders, non threatening complaints.
What if I can't keep my adopted pet?
You must return it to the animal shelter or call for instructions.
Is there a leash law in Person County?
There is not a leash law in Person County but there is a restraining order. Please refer to the County Ordinance.
What does it mean when my area is under a Rabies Alert?
Within the last 6 months an animal in your township has been tested positive for rabies and you need to make sure that your animals are all up to date on their rabies vaccines.
When is my animal supposed to be vaccinated for rabies?
All dogs and cats are to be vaccinated by the age of 4 months by a licensed veterinarian or by a certified vaccinator.
