The Person SWCD sponsors environmental education contests every year for students in Person County (public, private and home school).  These contests have been an important tool for the District to encourage young people to think about conservation.  It's also a way for us to become involved with our local schools and our youth, and to encourage them to understand our natural resources. Cash prizes are awarded to students and teachers!

Contests available are:

  • Poster Contests (3rd, 4th, 5th grades)

Each year the conservation topic theme changes.  Chosen topics are:

  • 2021-2022     Soil & Water….Yours for Life
  • 2022-2023     Water . . . the Cycle of Life
  • 2023-2024     The Living Soil
  • 2024-2025     Wetlands are Wonderful
  • 2025-2026     We All Live In A Watershed

For complete info on the contests, including scoring rubric, registration forms, hints and tips, as well as NC DPI Goals & Objectives, please contact our office.

A first, second and third place finalist is selected in each of the contest and grade categories. First place entries are then sent to the Area 3 competition, which represents these eleven counties: Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Guilford, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Orange, Person, Randolph, and Rockingham.

The first place winners from the Area competition then advance to compete at the State level.

All winning entries are invited to an awards celebration where the students are presented with a monetary award and a certificate for their accomplishments. In addition, teachers with a first place winning student will receive a cash award that can be used towards educational supplies.
