The Division of Soil & Water Conservation works in cooperation with the Soil and Water Conservation Districts to protect and improve soil and water resources throughout the state.  This partnership allows the Peron SWCD the ability to offer a variety of voluntary, incentive based cost share programs.  Each program offers best management practices (BMPs) targeted to meet specific program goals.  These programs offer assistance to address agricultural, rural and urban water resource issues.  Typically 75% cost share assistance is provided to an applicant to install best management practices that benefit county citizens by improving water resources in Person County and in North Carolina.

North Carolina Agriculture Cost-Share Program - ACSP

The major cause of water quality problems in North Carolina and in the United States is "non-point source" pollution.  Non-point source pollution comes from many places and by definition cannot be traced to one particular source.  Non-point source pollution can come from homes, parking lots, highways, development, the atmosphere and agriculture.

Originally established in 1984 to help reduce the sources of agricultural non-point pollution to North Carolina's waters, the ACSP helps landowners and farmers of established agricultural operations improve their farm management by using Best Management Practices (BMPs).  All BMPs are intended to improve water quality and many have numerous secondary benefits.  Some of the more popular BMPs requested  are terraces, grassed waterways, field borders, cropland conversion, livestock exclusion and livestock watering facilities.

Applicants must meet certain program eligibility criteria.  Participants in this program can be reimbursed up to 75% of a predetermined average cost for each BMP installed.  25% of the cost is the responsibility of the farmer.   Contact our office to see if you are eligible to participate.

Agricultural Water Resources Assistance Program - AgWRAP

This program is available to assist agricultural landowners and operators who want to increase water use efficiency, availability and storage of water for agricultural purposes and to implement best management practices (BMPs) to conserve and protect water resources. The purposes of the AgWRAP are to:

  • Identify opportunities to increase water use efficiency, availability and storage
  • Implement BMPs to conserve and protect water resources
  • Increase water use efficiency
  • Increase water storage and availability for agricultural purposes

Limited funding is available for this program.  Contact our office to see if funding is available and if you are eligible to participate.

Community Conservation Assistance Program - CCAP

This is a voluntary, incentive-based program designed to improve water quality through the installation of various best management practices (BMPs) on urban, suburban and rural lands not directly involved with agriculture production.  Eligible landowners may include homeowners, businesses, schools, parks and publicly owned lands.  How rapid urbanization affects water quality becomes important as North Carolina's land use continues to change.  CCAP can help educate landowners on water quality, stormwater management and retrofit practices to treat stormwater runoff.  These funds are limited and allocated on a regional level.  Contact our office if you are interested in completing a CCAP project.
