TEEN VOLUNTEER POLICY

PURPOSE

The Person County Public Library welcomes teen volunteers and recognizes that they are a valuable resource. Their talents aid the library in executing its mission to provide quality services to the public. Teen volunteers are valuable advocates for the library.

A teen is able to volunteer between the ages of 16 to 17. Teens are limited to two hours of volunteer service per day. The time for teen volunteering in the library is limited during the week. Each volunteer must complete a teen volunteer application, which will be kept on file at the library. A parent or legal guardian must sign the application. If volunteer is being dropped off or picked-up, their parent or legal guardian must arrive 15 minutes prior to closing. Failure to comply will result in the teen being unable to volunteer in the future. When the teen comes to volunteer, they need to log their time in the Teen Volunteer Log Book. Teen volunteer talents, experience, availability and interest will be considered by the Youth Services Librarian.

VOLUNTEER SERVICES:
• The library is not responsible for any unsupervised teen when inside of the library. If a parent or legal guardian chooses to drop their teen off at the library to volunteer they do so at their own risk.
• The library does not compensate teen volunteers for time spent or expense incurred, but volunteering hours will be documented for future resumes, job applications, college applications, or other opportunities.
• Teen volunteers are bound by all library policies.
• Each teen volunteer will be supervised by a library staff member at all times and will report to the Youth Services Librarian with any questions or concerns that arise during volunteer time.
• Teen volunteers represent the library and shall be guided by the same work and behavior codes as employees.
• Teen volunteers are not allowed in staff-only areas without supervision.
• Teen volunteers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all proprietary or privileged information which they may be exposed to while serving as a volunteer.
