PRIVACY & CONFIDENTIALITY OF LIBRARY ACCOUNTS

PURPOSE:

The Person County Public Library respects each library users’ individual right to privacy and confidentiality regarding information sought or received; resources used, borrowed, requested; and, services used. The library is dedicated to protecting library users’ right to privacy. The library will not share information regarding your library card account information including your personal information and library materials you borrow nor share information concerning questions you ask.

LIBRARY CARD ACCOUNT

Your library card account includes the following information:

  • Library card number
  • Name
  • Current address
  • Phone number and/ or email address
  • Date of Birth
  • Driver’s license or ID number


The information collected is used to confirm identity and residency and to avoid issuing duplicate library card and account discrepancies.

Your library card account includes transaction summaries (late fees charged, paid, and waived). It also includes current hold requests and a list of items currently checked out and/or held.

Your library card account does not include a history of previously borrowed materials. Library card application forms including personal information are shredded after being entered into the library’s database.

PARENTS AND CHILDREN

The library respects the privacy and confidentiality of all library users regardless of age. Parents or guardians of a child under age 18 must present the child’s library card to access their library account information.
