PERSON COUNTY AWARDS FIRST SCHOOL RECYCLING GRANT PROGRAM
[Roxboro, N.C] – On November 18, 2013, the Person County Board of Commissioners approved School Recycling Grant awards to four recipients—Person County Schools, Person High School, Roxboro Community School, and Stories Creek Elementary School. As part of the 2013-14 budget, the board approved nearly $15,000 for this new grant program. The purpose of the grant program is to encourage recycling in Person County. All K-12 schools located in the county were invited to submit proposals for school-wide or classroom recycling programs that engage students in teaching other students, parents, and staff about recycling.
Proposals were submitted by the September 23 deadline and subsequently reviewed by the three-person selection committee. Each proposal could receive a maximum of 100 points based on project impact; planning, organization, and sustainability; cost; and education and outreach. Proposals that demonstrated matching funds were eligible for an additional five points. Four proposals were selected for funding based on these merits. Person County congratulates our award recipients and thanks them for encouraging recycling in Person County!
