 About Us
The County Fire Marshal’s Office focuses on three categories - Inspections, Investigations, and Public Education - and serves as a liaison to County volunteer fire departments.

Inspections
All commercial buildings are inspected on a routine 1, 2, or 3-year rotation. Buildings and processes are reviewed to meet the minimum requirements of the North Carolina Fire Code. If violations are discovered, we work with the owner/occupant to corrected them so each and every place we work, shop, learn, or congregate is as safe as possible.

Investigations
All fires responded to by a fire department are required to establish an origin and cause. This information helps to make future products and processes safer using the data collected. Some fires are simple to explain, and others can be extremely complicated. Acts of arson, insurance fraud, and crime concealment must be investigated thoroughly to help solve crimes and protect taxpayers from high insurance rates.

Public Education
The Fire Marshal’s Office provides educational opportunities to the citizens, as well. Age-appropriate programs are available to children as well as a wide array of topics for older adults. Schools, churches, civic organizations, and clubs are welcome to schedule a presentation. Businesses are also encouraged to seek training for their employees such as fire extinguisher use, exit drills, and emergency planning.
